Kimber has a knack for making lightweight rifles; the company offers several that weigh less than 6 pounds. But this week, we take a look at a Kimber that nearly tips the scales at a whopping 7 pounds: the Model 84M Open Country. A 7-pound rifle may not be a lightweight, but the Open Country is no boat anchor, either. When you consider the rifle has a 24-inch, heavy contour barrel and a flat-bottomed, semi-beavertail fore-end, 7 pounds actually seems pretty light. So how does Kimber put together a rifle purpose-built for precision at longer distances and keep weight at a reasonable level? Find out in the video embedded above, hosted by Executive Editor Adam Heggenstaller. MSRP: $2,269; kimberamerica.com.
