This week on #SundayGunday, we’re taking a look at the Springfield Model 2020 Boundary. Since the 2020 action’s introduction in its namesake year, the platform has been held in high regard for pinpoint accuracy. The original Waypoint provided a do-it all rifle, suitable for use from the big timber to the high plains, while the later-introduced Redline gave backcountry hunters an ultralight option. Springfield has now decided to split that difference with the 2020 Boundary. It swaps a few of the Waypoint’s features for an additional weight savings, while still being a heartier option than the Redline. In short, the Model 2020 Boundary is Springfield’s take on the classic American deer rifle, but with a fully carbon-fiber, AG Sportsman stock finished in hand-painted Rogue camouflage.
Weighting a pound or more less than a comparable Waypoint, the 2020 Boundary boasts a less vertical, more traditionally shaped pistol grip, and a non-adjustable comb that feels a good bit lower. The fore-end is still fairly blocky, for better stability on rests or bags, and sports two M-Lok slots for the addition of a bipod.

Inside, the gun boasts a TriggerTech trigger adjustable from 2.5 to 5 pounds. And while the gun does sport a Pachmayr Decelerator to dampen recoil, it does also boast a radial brake straight from the factory, which took a good bit of thump out of the 7mm PRC our test rifle was chambered in.
This brake is attached to a 24-inch carbon-fiber barrel that maintains excellent accuracy, even after a few shots when some barrels begin to walk. In testing, we saw group averages hovering right around half MOA using 170 grain loads, though 150 grainers opened up a bit to over one MOA. An internal hinged-floorplate magazine feeds rounds into the gun’s effortlessly smooth action, while above, a full stretch of Picatinny rail makes it easy to mount your favorite optic.
