This week on #SundayGunday, we’re checking out the Ethos Cordoba A.I. BE.S.T. shotgun, a hunt-focused model of Benelli’s competition-driven semi-automatic.

The first thing hunters will notice about this model Ethos is the Comfort Tech 3 stock, which has become an incredibly common sight in waterfowl blinds across the country. The design splits the buttstock diagonally, and inserts shock-absorbing chevrons along that line to transform the entire thing into a recoil pad. The comb is also soft, to prevent recoil running the cheekbone. The result is one of the softest-shooting 12-gauges on the market. Inside, however, is the really cool stuff.

Cordoba Receiver

The gun is built around Benelli’s time-tested Inertia Driven System, which can handle everything from light target loads to heavy waterfowl magnums with ease. With three main components, it is easy to care for and utterly dependable, locking the Easy Locking Bolt System into place after every shot. The newest tech, though, is in the barrel.

While it works on anything, Benelli’s Advanced Impact technology is optimized for the sorts of steel shot common in waterfowl blinds, and improves downrange velocity and penetration by up to 50 percent. That’s not speculation, by the way, those are hard numbers that we here at American Hunter have confirmed in testing, and have seen work in the field. That A.I. barrel stretches 28 inches long, and is finished in Benelli’s BE.S.T. treatment, making it virtually impervious to the elements. It’s muzzle is threaded for AI Extended Crio chokes, and it ships with a full set. On top, a red fiber-optic front sight sits at the end of a carbon fiber rail for fast target acquisition.

The receiver is an anodized black aluminum, boasting oversized controls and an enlarged trigger guard for easy use. All in all, this is a gun that’s effortless to shoulder and swing on birds. It even comes in multiple gauges—12, 20 and 28—to suit anyone’s preferences. For more information, visit benelliusa.com. 5 Things I Wish Someone Had Told Me Before My First Elk Hunt

I grew up hunting whitetails in the Midwest, and while I thought I was in “elk shape” on my first western hunt, I quickly learned that chasing elk at high elevation requires an entirely different level of fitness. You’ll likely hike for hours, oftentimes at high elevation, and many of trails you’ll follow are filled with deadfall and uneven rocks. If you’re fortunate enough to fill your tag, the real work starts.
