If you’re looking for a slick, quick AR for whitetails, the Bushmaster Minimalist-SD could be your new favorite deer rifle. It weighs just 6 pounds and has an overall length of about 34 inches. You won’t find many deer rifles that are more compact than that. Plus, the Minimalist is chambered for .300 AAC Blackout—a cartridge that when loaded with 110- to 135-grain bullets, comes close to matching the performance of the tried-and-true .30-30 Winchester. Learn more about it in the video embedded above, hosted by Executive Editor Adam Heggenstaller. MSRP: $1,169; bushmaster.com.

Three Whitetail Traps to Set for Close Shots

Your whitetail hunting location may be as expansive as a national forest or as small as an uncle’s 40-acre woodlot. In either scenario, whitetails have a knack for slipping by just out of shooting range. Whether using a firearm or archery equipment, you do have options to lure whitetails closer.
