CVA has announced the introduction of its new Accura MR Nitride muzzleloader, a premium version of the company's popular Accura MR. The rifle retains the majority of the features offered by the Accura MR line, but introduces a nitride treated barrel that's meant to take the high-end rifle to a new level—making it the closest thing to a “rust proof” muzzleloader that has ever been developed.

The technique used to treat the barrels is known as Salt Bath Nitride. Already used in military applications, the nitride process hardens the outer layer of the steel, making it more durable and more corrosion resistant than even chrome lining—which was previously the highest standard in bore toughening techniques. Unlike the exterior ceramic coatings, the nitride process protects the outside and the inside of the barrel, and it will not shoot out even with thousands of shots.

With muzzleloaders often being particularly susceptible to corrosion, CVA's application of the nitride technology is meant to reinforce the quality of the company's popular high-end line.

According to Dudley McGarity, CEO of BPI Outdoors, owner of the CVA brand, the Accura MR Nitride is the result of collaboration among the company’s Pro-Staff members.  “We asked them to design the ideal all-around gun for the extreme conditions under which they hunt, and this is what they came up with.  The addition of the nitride treatment to the Bergara barrel, is the finishing touch that puts the Accura MR in a class by itself,” McGarity said.

The Accura MR Nitride includes all of the features that made the original Accura MR one of CVA's most popular rifles: The Quick Release Breech Plug (QRBP), the Trigger Guard Actuated Breeching Action, the Bergara Barrel, the Neutral Center of Gravity Trigger and the premium SoftTouch stock with rubber grip panels are all still included.
