On this week's #SundayGunday, we’re checking out a brilliant little takedown rimfire lever action from Savage Arms. This is the Revel DLX. An excellent fusion between classic lines and modern features, the gun is built around a satin-finished Walnut stock, boasting stippling for grip and comfort.

The action runs smooth, fast and short, exactly as one would expect from an old-West style rimfire, with a standard-profile lever and a cross-bolt safety. Above, the aluminum receiver is drilled and tapped for the easy addition of an optic, though the gun does ship with adjustable iron sights on its carbon steel barrel. The rear notch is adjustable for elevation, while the front is hooded for fast acquisition.

Further forward still, the muzzle is threaded to ½ x 28 TPI, for the addition of a rimfire suppressor. As hunters have begun to note with centerfire variants, lever-actions are a perfect gun to suppress, as the closed action allows the gun to stay quieter than a semi-automatic, while the tubular magazine tends to yield higher capacity that most bolt guns, and is quick to work to boot. On a rimfire, this is doubly true, as a suppressor can make the gun almost whisper quiet, particularly in .22 LR, running subsonics. That tubular magazine, by the way, will hold 12 rounds when chambered in .22 LR. .22 WMR and .17 HMR variants of the gun are also available, which each hold nine. With these three chamberings. The Revel DLX officially covers all the bases for intrepid squirrel and varmint hunters of all stripes.

Finally, and probably most interestingly, is the gun’s takedown capability. After ensuring the gun is fully empty, put the safety on, push the two takedown pins out—similar to how one would take apart an AR-platform rifle—and open the lever. That is quite literally, all it takes. To reassemble, make sure the bolt is back to its alignment mark, and keep the lever open. Then push the two halves back together, push in the pins and you are good to go. Fast, and easy.

We had a blast with this thing, both plinking with it on the range, and plating with the unique takedown feature. To learn more about it, visit savagearms.com.
