Springfield Armory has been offering semi-automatic versions of the legendary M14 since 1974. As a modernized descendent of that renowned rifle, there's no denying that the M1A SOCOM 16 was originally designed to protect you from two-legged predators—CQB actually stands for Close-Quarters Battle. But Americans have long hunted with firearms that found their origins in military service, and there's no reason to treat the M1A SOCOM 16 any differently—with the right accessories, it can be turned into a darn useful hunting rifle. Learn more about it with the video embedded above.

Three Whitetail Traps to Set for Close Shots

Your whitetail hunting location may be as expansive as a national forest or as small as an uncle’s 40-acre woodlot. In either scenario, whitetails have a knack for slipping by just out of shooting range. Whether using a firearm or archery equipment, you do have options to lure whitetails closer. Consider setting a trap this season for your best opportunity at an ethical, in-your-face shot.
