Big Horn Armory has announced that its popular big-bore lever-action rifles will soon be available in a 16-inch-barreled "Trapper" variant. Short-barreled versions of the company's popular rifles, which are chambered in cartridges like .500 S&W Mag., .460 S&W Mag. and .454 Casull, are due to be available in 2017.

“Our rifles are very popular in Alaska where tall, thick brush can conceal some pretty nasty characters,” said Greg Buchel, president of Big Horn Armory. “It was a natural evolution to build a Trapper version to better serve our customers.”

The "Trapper" carbines retain all the features of the original Models 89, 90 and 90A—they're just due to sport shorter barrels. The receivers and barrels are still made from 17-4 stainless steel CNC machined to some of the industry's tightest tolerances. All components are made in the USA and assembled in Cody, Wyo. Stocks are made from select American black walnut.

All three "Trapper" models will be available for $2,799.

The Model 89 Trapper Model will soon be featured in the AmericanHunter.org #SundayGunday series. Learn more about that here.
