Looks like I'll be stepping away from Virginia and NRA HQ for a bit next week—I'm trekking out to Illinois on a family hunting trip with my dad and a handful of longtime friends. We'll be chasing snow geese. I've got a bag of cameras and equipment that's nearly as heavy as my hunting pack, so you can trust that I'll (try) to bring back some footage to share with AmericanHunter.org's faithful readers.

If you've read any of posts on the "Wilder World Outdoors" before, you'll understand that my dad's a bit of a character. Suffice to say that, even if the birds aren't flying, I'll return home with plenty of fodder for this blog, if nothing else.

Joining us on the trip will be the family gundog, Tank (who's admittedly a bit obscured in the picture above). With luck he'll be included in the media gathering process—I'm going to try to rig him up with a GoPro camera for a couple of hours one day next week. Who's ready for a little "Retriever Cam" footage?

That said, keep an eye on both this blog and AmericanHunter.org's Facebook and Twitter pages next week for live look-ins from the Prairie State. Wish me luck!
