On this week's #SundayGunday, we’re checking out the Ratchet Rest adjustable-height shooting bags, from Real Avid. Available in three sizes, purchasable separately or together, Ratchet Rests are built to provide front and rear support for a rifle with easy elevation control, thanks to the unique ratcheting system.

How it works is simple. Push your rifle down onto the waxed-canvas top of one of the bag’s, which indents and holds the rifle. Pretty standard, virtually every bag you've every shot off does this. You can either run one in the front and one in the back, just one in the front, or stack them in a variety of ways if you need extra elevation. The bags stay good and steady, thanks to rubberized bases, while the waxed canvas finish keeps out moisture. Here’s where the Ratchet Rests separate themselves from traditional bags. One your gun is in place, you can use the ratchets built onto the bags to raise and lower the gun, as tightening them squeezes the poly beads inside the bags, increasing the height. Loosening it, of course, does the opposite.

Each rest has a carry handle, and some MOLLE webbing on the sides for attachment to a pack or case, but this is, at it’s core, a super simple stability solution that makes setting up and zeroing in a cinch, whether you’re at your bench at home, at a range, or making final adjustments in the prone at hunt camp. The Large size weights 9 pounds, and can be adjusted from roughly 7 to 9.5 inches, the medium weight 2.75 pounds, with a 3.35 to 5.25 inch range, and the small weights 2 pounds, with a 2.5-3.75-inch range.
