The Pennsylvania Game Commission (PGC) met Jan. 25-27 to consider a proposal that would eliminate deer and wild turkey from the list of species mentored youth hunters under age 9 could pursue. While the proposal was not approved, NRA-ILA says the commission did approve a restriction involving mentored youths under the age of 7.

The new proposal, which will be considered for final approval at the PGC’s April meeting, would require mentored hunters under age 7 to share a tag with their mentor for deer or wild turkey. While the commission has not shown any evidence that the current mentoring program has flaws, the new proposal would be problematic for those who mentor multiple young hunters and would have to use their own tags for mentees. NRA encourages the Commissioners to reconsider their actions at their April meeting and to leave the program intact. Please contact [email protected] and urge the PGC to oppose this proposal.
