The National Wild Turkey Federation (NWTF) has announced its popular NWTF Grand National Calling Championships will not occur this year (2021). Annually held in conjunction with the NWTF Convention and Sport Show in February, the contest has been considered the pinnacle of turkey-calling competition since its 1977 founding. It regularly draws hundreds of the world’s top youth and adult callers to compete in several divisions for Grand National titles and cash prizes.

“People have come to expect only the best for the Grand Nationals,” NWTF CEO Becky Humphries said. “We believe that having these contests at a smaller, lesser-quality venue or with reduced production value will not uphold those standards the viewers, callers and sponsors are accustomed to. We will come back in 2022 with a national convention and Grand National Calling Championships that will take both to a new level of quality and celebration.”

Callers who qualified for the 2020 and 2021 GNCC’s Senior Open and Friction divisions are still eligible to register and compete at the 2022 contest. More information on registration and rules will be released later this year by contest staff. Check nwtf.org for more information.
