Long-range-shooting afficionados in the market for a new rifle have a fresh option available from Browning. The company's X-Bolt Max Varmint/Target features a composite Max stock, a height-adjustable comb and an upright pistol grip for a more ergonomic trigger-finger position. The buttstock of the rifle is covered by a large Inflex 2 recoil pad, and stock spacers are included for length of pull (LOP) adjustment. On the fore-end, a stretch of Picatinny rail with an integral sling-swivel mount provides a secure position for attaching a bipod, while the rifle's flat-bottom buttstock makes shooting off bags a comfortable endeavor.

Within the Max stock is bedded an X-Bolt action finished in matte blue, which feeds from matte-black rotary magazines. Its bolt, which can be custom-engraved upon request, features an extended, 60-degree handle for easier operation. Moving forward, a hand-chambered, fluted, 26-inch stainless steel barrel with a heavy bull profile offers added stability, while a removable brake is threaded on its ⅝ʺ-24 TPI muzzle. A thread protector is included for when the brake (or a suppressor) is in use.

To send shots downrange, Browning has installed its three-lever Feather Trigger—adjustable from three to five pounds—which can be rendered inoperable via a top-tang safety. For more information on this long-distance varmint hunter, available in a variety of long- and short-action calibers, visit browning.comMSRP: $1,339.99-$1,379.99.
