One of the bigger hits at the 146th NRA Annual Meetings and Exhibits last month came from Taurus, which used the show to unveil its first-ever AR-15 style design in the form of the new T4SA. A lightweight, gas-impingement 5.56mm semi-automatic carbine, the T4SA is based on the legendary M4 design. It will be designed, engineered and manufactured entirely within the United states.

Features include a forged upper receiver 1913 rail that includes "T" Mark reference points for convenient mounting and reattaching of accessories. It comes standard with a lightweight, low-profile KeyMod or M-LOK aluminum handguard. Additionally, the Taurus T4SA utilizes an M16-style bolt carrier, which reduces the recoil pulse during firing. The barrel is chambered in 5.56 NATO and fires both 5.56 and .223 Rem. ammunition. The 1:7" twist, chromoly barrel utilizes the Melonite process on all interior and exterior surface areas, rendering it corrosion resistant and easy to clean.

The T4SA has a dual-pinned Melonite low-profile gas block that replaces standard fix front sight post gas blocks. The idea is to reduce overall weight and allow handguards to extend unimpeded past the gas block. Gas port sizing is tuned for optimal system operation without over-pressurizing the operating system. The Taurus T4SA forged lower receiver is equipped with a Magpul grip with internal storage and a Magpul oversized trigger guard that allows for the use of gloves when engaging targets or active threats.

"The company has developed an extremely reliable and durable carbine based on the iconic M4 platform that exceeds MIL-SPEC standards," Anthony Acitelli, Taurus USA's CEO, said. "Manufactured at Taurus USA headquarters in Miami, the Taurus T4SA is a carbine that incorporates high quality components into a proven platform," said Acitelli. "The T4 affirms that our USA-based engineering team continues to apply innovative, cost-conscious solutions to a wide variety of industry segment challenges."

AmericanHunter.org will have further information—as well as a complete review—of the rifle later this year.
