In case you haven't been paying attention, SIG Sauer has turned itself into a veritable one-stop shop. The company brought its own ammunition to the table in 2014, and added yet another wing to its booth earlier this year at SHOT Show with the introduction of SIG-branded optics and suppressors.

For the 144th NRA Annual Meetings & Exhibits, SIG rolled out a new addition to its ammunition line, and one hunters might find handy: 300 Blackout Supersonic Elite Performance Ammunition Match Grade Centerfire Cartridges. The supersonic round features a 125gr Sierra Matchking projectile and is designed to bring out the best in today’s high-performance AR rifles.

Though probably more popular within the tactical market, 300 Blackout has its place in the hunting industry. The cartridge works quite well on mid-size game, particularly hogs. It's not uncommon to see folks put it to use on whitetail, either.

“The 300 Blackout is an increasingly popular caliber with target shooters and 3-gun competition shooters,
and is also an excellent round for home defense in short barrel rifles, including the SIG MCX and M400,”
said Bud Fini, vice president of marketing for SIG Sauer. “Elite military units are also evaluating the 300
Blackout as their primary CQB load. More modern sporting rifle hunters are turning to the 300 Blackout
for close-range hunting of mid-sized game, including hogs and deer. We are pleased to now offer our
customers both supersonic and subsonic rounds to meet their shooting and hunting needs.”

Recipe: Deep-Rooted Venison Stew

Several friends and I often circle back to the same campfire debate about which wild game makes the best stew. Mule deer usually leads the pack, with moose close behind, but any well-handled game meat can stand out when you build the right layers of flavor. The real magic starts long before the broth simmers. It comes from the vegetables and mushrooms you choose.
