On the heels of its bevy of 2016 product introductions, Weatherby has announced that it will be making the new Vanguard Dangerous Game rifle available in the coming year. A variant of the venerable Vanguard line, the Dangerous Game Rifle (DGR) will be available through Weatherby's Custom Shop.

According to Weatherby, the DGR eschews frills for functionality—the well-known Vanguard action is attached to a full-length bedding plate secured in an all-conditions, hand-laminated, composite stock with spider web accents. To reduce glare and enhance durability, the stock has a matte gel coat finish. Weatherby's Monte Carlo-style, raised comb is designed to immediately align the shooter's eye with the iron sights or an attached optic. The barrel is topped with the field-proven New England Custom Gun (NECG) rear sight and a Williams Gun Sight Co. hooded front sight. Sight-skewing and game-alarming glare is minimized through the use of a bead-blasted, matte-blue finish.

The DGR is fed by an internal, staggered-column magazine that holds three rounds. Like its Vanguard brethren, the DGR is equipped with a match-quality, hand-honed, two-stage trigger that's user adjustable for pull weight. It also has the familiar three-position safety. As with many of its models, Weatherby guarantees that the Vanguard will produce a  three-shot group measuring .99-inch or less at 100 yards, when shooting premium ammunition from a cold barrel.
