Q: I am heading down to Florida to hunt feral hogs. Can you recommend a mosquito repellent?

A: Florida, like many of the southeastern states, can be rather unforgiving with regards to insects, particularly when you are hunting. Mosquitoes are pesky to say the least, but there is a solution when hunting in infested areas: ThermaCell. This small appliance can be worn on your belt in a special holster, but you can also simply put it on the floor of your stand or blind. The ThermaCell is powered by a small butane cartridge that provides the heat necessary to activate a small mat (disposable) saturated with repellent. The heat vaporizes the repellent, and within minutes it will clear a 15’ by 15’ area of mosquitoes and other airborne insect nuisances. It's worth its weight in gold, making even Florida swamps tolerable in the summer. ThermaCells are normally available anywhere outdoor sporting goods are sold.
