A Florida court denied a temporary injunction last month that would have stopped the state’s first black bear hunt since 2015. One hundred and seventy-two hunters, who paid for the opportunity to help manage the black bear population, can head afield in search of a Sunshine State bruin beginning Saturday. 

In 2015, members of the Schmitt family, working as contracted salvage operators for 1715 Fleet-Queens Jewels, LLC, uncovered a treasure trove of 101 gold coins from the wrecks off Florida’s Treasure Coast.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed House Bill 87 (HB 87) into law on June 21, 2024.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) has confirmed that a road-killed 4.5-year-old whitetail has tested positive for chronic wasting disease (CWD). It is the first known case of CWD in Florida.

Once signed into law, more than half of the nation will recognize this fundamental right.
