Lightweight Scope Rings/Mounts: Part 6 of 10

Scope rings may not sound like a big component of a rifle’s construction, but that mode of thinking will cause you problems. I’m constantly amazed that hunters will spend thousands of dollars on a rifle with every detail given painful consideration, add in a fine European scope priced in four-figures and tie it all together with whatever rings and bases they can find at the local gun shop. Many accuracy issues can be traced to improperly installed or poorly designed scope rings and mounts. It’s not a place to skimp.

Our lightweight rifle is designed for hunting in rough terrain, the kinds of places with many falls and few soft landings. Though we are obsessed with weight, we mustn't compromise strength. Fortunately, Talley’s lightweight alloy scope mounts are built for this task. Designed in collaboration with mountain rifle guru Melvin Forbes of New Ultra Light Arms, the Talley lightweights combine both a ring and base into a single unit. They are rigid, and at only 2.2 ounces, make a negligible addition to our rifle’s weight.
