Released yesterday (9/29/2020), the Waypoint 2020 is Springfield's first foray into what will be an entire Model 2020 family of American-made bolt action hunting rifles.
The heart of the rifle is the custom-grade Model 2020 action, designed to take advantage of advanced manufacturing methods to hold incredibly tight tolerances. The Cerakote-finished action, fed by a detachable box magazine, features an integral recoil lug and is machined from pre-hardened stainless steel with EDM cut raceways. The fluted bolt can be disassembled without tools, employs dual cocking cams, and an enhanced extractor for high-pressure loads.
The result is a production rifle delivering levels of precision usually found only on custom rifles that have been blueprinted and trued. This allows each Model 2020 to carry a remarkable .75-inch MOA accuracy guarantee, helped along by a free-floated barrel that is either carbon-fiber sleeved, or fluted steel. Each rifle is also equipped with a carbon-fiber stock by AG Composites, hand-laid and pillar-bedded for precision and repeatability. Available in both adjustable and standard configurations, the stock features five QD mounts for versatile carry, M-Lok slots for mounting bipods and accessories, and is hand painted in either Ridgeline or Evergreen camo.
Here at American Hunter, we had the pleasure of testing an advance model out a few weeks back, and boy, were we impressed. The TriggerTech "Field" trigger was crisp and light with no overtravel to speak of, while the bolt ran smooth and fast before every shot. Our test model was chambered in 6mm Creedmoor, though the rifle is also available in 6.5 Creedmoor, .308 Winchester and 6.5 PRC. Stay tuned to our homepage for a #SundayGunday on this very rifle, coming this weekend. For more information on this fantastic new rifle, check out springfield-armory.com.
