"Give an American a handy, accurate, magazine-fed bolt gun in a caliber like .308 Win. and he can do many things, including win battles, defend castles, take deer and wild pigs, and have a blast dinging targets nearly as far as he can see," writes Field Editor Jeff Johnston in the April 2014 print edition of American Hunter. "Give him one for under $700 and he's over the moon."

Johnston is flying high over Mossberg's new MVP Predator, now chambered in .308 Win., which happens to be his favorite hunting round of all time (mine, too). He likes the Mossberg's 18.5-inch barrel, laminated stock with bedding block and handy, 38.5-inch overall length. But what really has him going is this: The MVP Predator .308 Win. rifle feeds from an M1A or AR-10 magazine.

When Mossberg introduced the MVP Predator a couple years ago, it was chambered in .223 Rem. and fed from AR-15 magazines. Now the company has reworked the 4x4-based action to accommodate the larger magazines tailored for .308 Win. The gun runs well, according to Johnston's "Hardware" report, and manages 1-inch or better groups at 100 yards.

The .308 Win. version of the MVP Predator is so new that Mossberg doesn't have much info on the rifle on its website yet. To get more details, check the April 2014 preint edition of American Hunter.
