Final Weigh-in: Part 8 of 10

The rifle is back from Lone Wolf and their friends at Falcon Gun Finishing, I can’t tell you how happy I am with the way it turned out. The carbon fiber Summit XL II is extremely light, strong and stiff. It has enough meat to be shootable, but not an extra ounce of fat. I chose hunter green purely on looks, they offer a variety of standard and custom colors.

This rifle will hopefully see some rough weather, so Falcon coated the rifle in a outstanding finish called Cerakote which is resistant to both corrosion and friction. The color is called “Stone Grey” but the combinations and possibilities are pretty much endless.

At 5 pounds—5.4 ounces with everything but a scope—we are in good shape. If we’d started with a Titanium 700 action, we’d be under 5 pounds—too bad I sold mine in a weak moment a few years ago...

We have missed our weight goal of staying under 6 pounds with a scope by 1 ounce—that’s pretty close to the mark but it goes to show how the little details really matter when you become obsessed with weight.
