Bushnell, an industry leader in high-performance sporting optics, has recognized American Hunter contributor Bryce M. Towsley with the 2018 Bill McRae Lifetime Achievement Award.

The award was established in 2011 by Bushnell to honor Bill McRae, a legendary writer and photojournalist, for the vast contributions he made to the optics and outdoor industry throughout his 50-year career. It is presented annually to recognize McRae and other leading journalists who have followed his example and made a profound impact in the industry.

“Bryce is an award-winning writer and photographer whose work not only entertains but teaches millions of hunters and shooters,” said Bushnell Public Relations Manager Jacob Edson. “He has published thousands of articles and photos in nearly every major outdoor and firearm outlet. He is a strong technical expert on hunting, firearms, gunsmithing, reloading, shooting and, most important, optics. His ability to educate his readers as well as pull them into his adventures is what really sets him apart, while he has continually stayed ahead of the game as the technology and sport have evolved. Throughout his career, he has honed a skill for storytelling that has, beyond a doubt, made a profound impact in this industry. I’m proud to call him a friend.”

An active 3-gun and USPSA shooter, Towsley, a Vermont native, has hunted across the country and across the globe, and he has been a consultant for companies across the shooting industry. He published his first article, about hunting with handguns, in 1982 in Vermont Sportsman. In addition to writing thousands of articles, he is the author of numerous books including Benoit Bucks, Big Bucks the Benoit Way, Gunsmithing Made Easy and The 14th Reinstated (a novel). He is an NRA Life member. Learn more about him at brycetowsley.com.

First Look: Blocker Outdoors Finisher Chest Pack Pro

This makes it a a straightforward alternative to a full-size turkey vest for run-and-gun hunters who want to balance loadout with freedom of movement.

The Value of Post Season Scouting in the Snow

Although for most of the country deer season is over, there are some important aspects of deer hunting to be understood, particularly when it snows during the winter months. In my part of the country, we don’t often get a good blanket of snow until the deer season closes. However, when it does snow, I make a point to get outdoors and visit each of my hunting areas to learn when the learning is best.
