AH Exclusive: Repairing Your Savage Arms B.MAG

In August, Savage Arms issued a recall notice on the rifle bolts of its popular B.MAG model, chambered in .17 WSM. The company discovered that the bolt on some B.MAG rifles could inadvertently catch the safety and slide it forward into the fire position upon operation. No actual accidents have yet been reported, and Savage has taken strides to correct the problem by offering a free bolt handle and cap retrofit. Each retrofit kit includes the replacement for your existing bolt handle and bolt cap with a revised bolt handle and bolt cap.

The retrofit is a simple procedure, and can be complete without the assistance of a gunsmith. We had Karie Thomas, NRA Publications' Firearms Inventory Manager, go through it step by step in the video embedded above. If you've got a B.MAG that needs fixing, we'd encourage giving the video a look. Oh and before you start, it’s important to note that only B.MAGS purchased before September 2015 are included in the recall. If you purchased B.MAG after September 1, 2015, you shouldn't have any problems.
