The organizers of National Hunting and Fishing Day (NHF Day) have announced that the National Rifle Association has joined their list of sponsors.

"We are extremely happy to have the NRA as a sponsor," said Misty Mitchell, director of Conservation for Wonders of Wildlife. "The storied organization has built a tradition on defending the efforts of sportsmen, and that includes conservation efforts. We look forward to a great relationship with NRA for years to come."

National Hunting and Fishing Day will be held on Sept. 27, 2014. The day is meant to be a celebration of the conservation efforts of sportsmen and women nationwide.

"As the number one organization for hunters in the United States, the NRA celebrates the sportsmen and women who live the outdoor lifestyle and are so important to conservation and wildlife management efforts," said Executive Director of NRA General Operations Kyle Weaver. "National Hunting and Fishing Day's opportunities to learn about and experience traditional outdoor sports help prepare future generations to enjoy and responsibly use our country's natural resources."

Other NHF Day sponsors includes Wonders of Wildlife, National Shooting Sports Foundation, Bass Pro Shops, Realtree, Yamaha, GunBroker.com, Izaak Walton League, Ducks Unlimited, Limit Out Production, Scout, National Wild Turkey Federation, Smith & Wesson and Outdoor Channel.

Behind the Bullet: The .308 Norma Magnum

Norma’s ballistician Nils Kvale saw the wisdom of having the velocity and horsepower of the .300 H&H Magnum, but in a shorter, more affordable receiver, and used the H&H case to develop his .358 Norma Magnum in 1959 as well as the .308 Norma Magnum one year later. The .308 Norma Magnum closely resembles the wildcat .30-338 cartridge, though the shoulder of the former is located a bit more toward the base than that of the .308 Norma Magnum. Intrigued?
