On this week's #SundayGunday, we’re checking out the Stoeger M3000 Freedom Series Tactical shotgun. A higher-capacity version of the M3000 Tactical, the Freedom Series Tactical is an excellent gun for home defenders, and a ton of fun at the range.
Based around an Inertia Driven system, this three-inch chambered shotgun can run a gamut of shotshells, from lightweight target loads to heavy turkey magnums. Starting at the rear, its stock is loaded with sling attachment options, boasting three M-Lok slots on each sides, a QD cup on each side and a traditional sling mount on the bottom. A soft-rubber recoil pad sits at the back to help absorb recoil from any stout loads, and an elevated, rubberized comb does the same job at the top, while keeping the eye perfectly in line with the sights. This is, after all, not a shotgun you’re likely to be swinging on clays or flying birds. Those sights are in a ghost ring setup, and are adjustable both front and rear for added accuracy. Even cooler, the rear sight sits behind a stretch of Picatinny rail, and while you could mount any sort of red-dot right on the rail, the rear sight itself is actually inset into an RMR cut, meaning you could pull it off and attach any optic with an RMR footprint, for a streamlined look.

Beneath all this, the bolt handle is large for easy charging, and the bolt release is similarly oversized, making it easy to manipulate fast, or through gloves. While not overly massive, the loading port has been cut back up into the receiver, making it even easier to load shells. Behind this, the trigger guard is appropriately sized for gloves, and sports a large cross-bolt safety at its rear. Out front, the 18.5-inch barrel is blued, and while it comes only with a specialized Breacher Choke, the muzzle is threaded for Mobil choke tubes, so you could swap that out for just about anything.
Beneath the barrel runs a tubular magazine with a seven-round capacity. If you plan on running the gun as a dual purpose home defense and turkey gun, however, you might consider the standard Tactical variant, which is the exact same, but with a five round capacity that is more easily plugged. Plug the tube, swap out the choke and you have a shotgun that would be just as capable in the turkey woods, as it would next to the bed. Finally, the fore-end of the gun sports three M-Lok slots per side, and an attachment loop on the bottom to help mount a sling.
