This week on #SundayGunday, we’re checking out the Model 110 Tactical from Savage Arms. A magazine-fed variant of Savage’s classic Model 110, the 110 Tactical is the perfect bolt gun for when you need to get a number of shots on target in a hurry.

Built around the classic 110 action—as reliable as it is lights-out accurate—the 110 Tactical feeds from an AICS-pattern magazine, a Magpul 10-rounder being included with the firearm. A large paddle release resides behind the magazine, for quick magazine changes on the fly. Set into Savage’s classic AccuStock with an Accufit system, the 110 Tactical boasts an adjustable Length of Pull and Drop at Comb for perfect fitment to any shooter. A textured grip and fore-end allow for maximal purchase, while the AccuTrigger is user-adjustable from 1.5-5 pounds. Above, the bolt runs fast and smooth with an oversized bolt handle for solid manipulation.

A 20-MOA Picatinny rail from Evolution Gun Works runs across the top of the receiver, for the quick addition of any optic, be it a traditional magnified optic, or a red-dot for rapid, close-in work. The barrel is fluted and stretches 18-24 inches depending on chambering, with all muzzles being threaded to 5/8x24 TPI for the attachment of a silencer or muzzle brake. Finally, in addition to its rear sling swivel stud, the gun has two studs beneath its fore-end. While this may seem a little odd at first, this is handy feature, as the rear one can be for your sling, while the front can support a bipod for added stability.

While the name may say Tactical, this gun is a real treat for predator and hog hunters. With its AICS pattern magazine, you’ll have a hard time running dry of ammunition when ravaging a pack or sounder, and few bolts run quicker than that of a 110. Chamberings are well selected too, with .308 Winchester, 6.5 Creedmoor, 300 Win Mag, 6.5 PRC and 6mm ARC all packing a dog or hog-busting punch. The first two cartridges of these are even available in a left-handed version of the 110 Tactical, for our oft-ignored lefty friends. Behind the Bullet: The .308 Norma Magnum

Norma’s ballistician Nils Kvale saw the wisdom of having the velocity and horsepower of the .300 H&H Magnum, but in a shorter, more affordable receiver, and used the H&H case to develop his .358 Norma Magnum in 1959 as well as the .308 Norma Magnum one year later. The .308 Norma Magnum closely resembles the wildcat .30-338 cartridge, though the shoulder of the former is located a bit more toward the base than that of the .308 Norma Magnum. Intrigued?
