New for 2017, SIG Sauer has entered the Varmint ammunition market.

SIG ammunition has proven its value in both pistol and rifle calibers over the last couple years, and their Varmint & Predator line is no exception. Using a smoke gray polymer tipped bullet, designed to frangible by using a thin jacket and using that tip to initiate the devastating expansion that varmint and predator hunters love, the new SIG offering is sure to be a woodchuck’s nightmare.

Unlike SIG’s Elite Performance line, which comes in nickel-plated cases, the Varmint & Predator line is produced in brass cases. The new line is initially offered in three classic varmint cartridges: The .223 Remington—perfect for those SIG AR-platform rifles—the .22-250 Remington, and the .243 Winchester.

SIG has wisely chosen light for caliber bullets in this line, which will allow for higher velocities and flat trajectories, as well as to deliver all sorts of hydraulic shock. Both the .22 centerfires use a 40-grain projectile, and the .243 comes with a 55-grain pill. Sig is loading this line with the same single-base extruded powders the use in their Match Grade line, to deliver the best accuracy possible.
