Plenty's been written about whitetail food plots, but what's a guy with 40 acres who wants to groom it for pheasants supposed to do?It's a topic I consider frequently, because franklyI'd rather have upland game than big bucks on my property.

I'm sure that'll serve as fodder for Jeff Johnston, who's made fun of my love of birds and apathy toward deer hunting. Hopefully he finds some new material soon before his obsession with my life turns unhealthy. (For the record, Jeff did not kill a single duck last year, even thoughI have it on good accord that, in desperation,he resorted unsuccessfully to jump shooting.)

Anyhow, Pheasants Forever has the Habitat Top Ten Tips for Landowners. It delves into such topics as nesting and winter/shelter cover, food plots, trees,cost-cutting measures and the best types of seeds. It's a pretty good round-up that should help you make life a little easier for a few pheasants or quail, even if you don't have a huge property.
