We expect our gear to do what it was made to do, to hold up to the beating we give it, time and time again. Here are our hat, glove and sock selections for 2018.

Banded Atchafalaya Beanie
Named after the famed Atchafalaya Swamp, the largest wetland in the U.S., this beanie is a must-have when late-season cold fronts push through. The outer shell is wind- and weather-resistant polyester, while the interior is layered in warm coral fleece. Available in Mossy Oak, Realtree and Natural Gear camo, and blaze orange. MSRP: $19.99; banded.com.

Huntworth Performance Balaclava
The Performance Balaclava is made from four-way stretch fabric that forms to your head for an unconstraining fit while allowing for maximum peripheral vision. Scent-eliminating treatment and Disruption digital camo pattern provide the ultimate in concealment. Hexagonal knit pattern increases air-flow, and DWR finish keeps you dry. MSRP: $21.99; huntworthgear.com.

Browning Wicked Wing Gunner’s Glove
The Gunner’s Glove provides waterproof protection and maximum mobility for waterfowlers. OutDry technology fuses a breathable waterproof membrane to the inside of the shell, preventing heat-robbing water from becoming trapped between the layers. Textured overlay on the palm, thumb and fingers provides grip. Lined with moisture-wicking fabric. MSRP: $69.99; browning.com.

Sitka Ascent Glove
The Ascent Glove weighs next to nothing and is breathable thanks to an abrasion-resistant Cordura/nylon back. The synthetic suede palm and fingers are quiet and provide the dexterity for precision shooting. Conductive tips allow for touchscreen operation. Available in Gore Optifade Open Country and Optifade Subalpine. MSRP: $79; sitkagear.com.

Showers Pass Crosspoint Socks and Gloves
The waterproof knit Crosspoint socks and gloves from Oregon-based Showers Pass utilize a waterproof membrane sandwiched between a durable, abrasion-resistant outer shell and a soft, antibacterial knit liner. The three layers are fused together in a functional design that is breathable, quiet and dry. MSRP: $36 socks, $45 gloves; showerspass.com.

Kenetrek Canada and Ultimate Liner Socks
A mid-weight, boot-length sock, the Canada provides warmth and protection without bulk. It’s reinforced at the toe, heel and calf, and made of a merino-wool blend that insulates even when wet. A thin, next-to-skin sock made of a propylene/nylon/Lycra blend, the Ultimate Liner combines moisture-wicking comfort with a bit of extra warmth. MSRP: $24.95 Canada, $19.95 Ultimate Liner; kenetrek.com.

Hardware Review: Benelli Super Black Eagle 3 A.I. BE.S.T

The Benelli Super Black Eagle 3 A.I. BE.S.T. is, put simply, on the fast track to being considered a waterfowling marvel. Standing for Advanced Impact technology, the SBE 3 A.I. shoots its shot with  improved downrange results thanks to a very, very proprietary barrel technology that actually assists in energy retention for greater downrange velocity.
