It’s standard practice to talk about what a rifle has, not what it lacks. But Kimber’s Mountain Ascent is conspicuous not for what it includes but what it leaves out: namely, weight. Can you imagine a .30-06 bolt-action rifle weighing less than 6 pounds? This unit does. In fact it weighs 5 pounds, 2 ounces without a scope, mounts and ammo on board. Short-action chamberings weigh even less, a mere 4 pounds, 13 ounces. Wildlife Violations Lead to $900,000 Fine

In early April, a federal judge in Brooklyn sentenced two men for trafficking protected birds and eggs into the United States in violation of the U.S. Endangered Species Act (ESA). Dr. John Waldrop of Cataula, Ga., was ordered to pay a $900,000 fine—one of the largest-ever for an ESA case—and serve three years of probation. Toney Jones of Eufala, Ala., was sentenced to six months of probation.
