Hornady announced its 2015 product offerings this week at the National Association of Sporting Goods Wholesalers (NASGW) show, and three things in particular should catch the eye of the hunting community: Full Boar Ammunition, the company's own .17 Win. Super Mag. and a new addition to the popular American Whitetail line.

Full Boar Ammunition
Full Boar ammunition will feature GMX bullets for deep penetration and maximum weight retention. The monolithic copper alloy bullets are designed to deliver 95+ percent weight retention and uniform, controlled expansion for unmatched terminal performance on the toughest game. The GMX bullet is California compatible and appropriate for areas that require the use of non-traditional bullets.

17 Win. Super Mag.
Rounding out the Hornady line of high speed rimfire cartridges is the 17 Win. Super Mag. (WSM). Filling the gap between the .17 HMR and the centerfire 17 Hornet, the 17 Win Super Mag fires a 20 grain V-Max bullet at 3,000 fps. Designed to retain over 2,000 fps of velocity at 200 yards, .17 WSM should provide plenty of velocity for the hard-hitting V-Max bullet to perform on varmints at extended range. 12-Gauge American Whitetail Rifled Slug Ammunition
Designed for smooth bore barrels, Hornady American Whitetail Rifled Slugs are loaded with a 1-ounce rifled slug. The hollow point slug features a tough, lead alloy core loaded to 1,600 feet per second. You can learn more about the new smooth bore addition to the American Whitetail line with this video.

Michigan Mayor Looks Down on Guns and Dogs

“If you’ve got a gun, you should be ashamed of yourself,” said Grand Rapids Mayor David LaGrand. NRA-ILA also noted that in his response to a police K-9 chasing down a suspect, LaGrand said: “It is time that we ask, ‘What are dogs good for?’ Like, if you need a dog to find someone in the woods, get a hound dog. If you need to chase somebody in a backyard, why couldn’t you do that with a drone? If my dog did what I saw in that video, I’d put my dog down.”

Coyote Tactics: Stay Flexible

The successful hunters I know do not get hung up on one tactic. They constantly float between strategies in an ever-changing hunting environment. Quite simply, they’re flexible. I take that improvising nature to heart even for coyotes, particularly when they shun my calls for whatever reason. When that occurs, I continue the hunt, but modify my strategy to fit the scenario.
