SHOT Show has plenty to offer, but ultimately the first thing the NRA Editors look for is the same thing you'd want to see yourself—the new hardware. It all starts on Monday, Jan. 16 with the annual Media Day at the Range.

NRA Editors will be on the range all day testing some of the most touted new products of 2012, and you can bet that AmericanHunter.org will be there to feature some of the industry's hottest new releases.

There's no telling exactly what will be available at Media Day, but there are five guns our staff is already looking forward to shooting:

• New Browning A5 Shotgun
• Franchi Instinct Over-Under Shotgun (Pictured)
• Ruger American Rifle
• Browning 725 Over-Under
• Bad Boy Buggies Bad Boy Ambush Vehicle

Okay, so we know we can't really shoot that last one... but we can't wait to drive it!

Expect news about each of these new products—and plenty more—starting on Monday, Jan. 16, right here at AmericanHunter.org's Straight from SHOT Show 2012 Blog.

My phone still in my hands, I texted my teenage son, who was hunting along the field not far away. Trying not to move any part of my body but my thumbs, I sent the message, “Got a buck down, but he’s still alive. Help!” Tucker texted back, “What do you want me to do?” I replied: “Come kill the bastard before he kills me!” Intrigued? Read on.

Behind the Bullet: The .308 Norma Magnum

Norma’s ballistician Nils Kvale saw the wisdom of having the velocity and horsepower of the .300 H&H Magnum, but in a shorter, more affordable receiver, and used the H&H case to develop his .358 Norma Magnum in 1959 as well as the .308 Norma Magnum one year later. The .308 Norma Magnum closely resembles the wildcat .30-338 cartridge, though the shoulder of the former is located a bit more toward the base than that of the .308 Norma Magnum. Intrigued? Read on about this often unfairly overlooked hunting classic.
