On today's #SundayGunday, we’re diving into a rifle that blends classic American design with modern manufacturing: the Heritage Model 92 lever-action. This gun pays homage to one of the most iconic lever-actions ever created, John Browning’s legendary Model 92. However, the gun is imported to U.S. shores by Heritage Manufacturing, a company dedicated to preserving the legacy of traditional firearms.

Construction & Design

Heritage Manufacturing has carved out a niche for itself by focusing on timeless designs, and the Model 92 series is a perfect example of that mission. There’s no polymer here—just wood, steel, and a lever. This rifle is a throwback to the days when simplicity and reliability ruled the open range.

Our test sample arrived chambered for .357 Magnum, which means you can also run .38 Special for lighter loads with softer recoil. That versatility makes it a great option for everything from casual plinking to serious hunting. The rifle features a 24-inch octagonal barrel that’s finished in a deep blued steel, which just screams old-school. A full-length magazine tube runs beneath the barrel, nearly flush with the crowned muzzle, and the hardwood stock and fore-end complete the gun’s classic charm.

Heritage didn’t stop at the basics—they added authentic touches throughout. The sights are pure old-school: a semi-buckhorn adjustable rear paired with a brass bead front. These details aren’t just for show; they make aiming intuitive and accurate, whether you’re on the range or in the field.

Controls & Operation

Operating the Heritage 92 is as straightforward as it gets. Load up to 12 rounds through the side loading gate, cycle the lever, and you’re ready to go. The action is smooth and satisfying, a reminder of why lever guns have such a loyal following. A top-mounted safety adds a modern layer of security without detracting from the rifle’s classic feel. Once that safety shows red, it’s time to align your sights, squeeze the trigger, and enjoy the ride.

Range Performance

On the range, the Heritage 92 delivered exactly what we hoped for—smooth cycling, zero malfunctions, and plenty of fun. With .357 Magnum, you get solid performance for hunting or home defense, and with .38 Special, you can shoot all day without breaking the bank or your shoulder. Heritage also offers variations, including a handy 16.5-inch carbine and even a handgun version. If you crave more power, there are models chambered in .45 Colt, .44 Magnum, and even .454 Casull.

Model 92 Carbine

If you’re looking for a rifle that captures the spirit of the Old West, the Heritage Model 92 deserves a hard look. For more details, visit HeritageMFG.com. And as always, until next time, stay safe and good luck hunting. We’ll see you next week for another #SundayGunday.
