Franchi has expanded its Affinity Elite to include an upland model with some exceptionally clean lines. The Affinity Elite Upland sports a Gun Metal Gray Cerekote finish for protection from abrasion and the elements, while chrome accents underline the new aesthetic. The gun's grade-A walnut stock features a TSA recoil pad, and a matching streamlined forend to promote balance and a natural point-of-aim. Bolt controls are oversized and textured, coupled with an enlarged loading port to ease operation in trying conditions, or gloved manipulation. At the muzzle, TruLock chokes combine with a Franchi Precision Cone for additional adaptability.

Available in 12-or 20-ga., the Inertia-Driven semi-automatic maintains some standard features of the Affinity line, including sling attachment points on the magazine cap and buttstock, an ambidextrous safety, a ventilated and chrome-lined barrel and a drilled-and-tapped receiver for the easy mounting of optics and accessories. Length-of-pull adjustments and an included shim kit allow for a customized fit between shooter and gun. Finally, an easily removable trigger group and recoil spring allow for a simplified maintenance process. For more information on this or other Franchi products, please visit franchiusa.com.

Behind the Bullet: The .308 Norma Magnum

Norma’s ballistician Nils Kvale saw the wisdom of having the velocity and horsepower of the .300 H&H Magnum, but in a shorter, more affordable receiver, and used the H&H case to develop his .358 Norma Magnum in 1959 as well as the .308 Norma Magnum one year later. The .308 Norma Magnum closely resembles the wildcat .30-338 cartridge, though the shoulder of the former is located a bit more toward the base than that of the .308 Norma Magnum. Intrigued?
