Hawke Vantage Turkey New Optics

Hawke Optics has introduced the Vantage IR 1–4x20mm Turkey Dot Scope in Mossy Oak Bottomland, purpose-built to give turkey hunters fast target acquisition, precise shot placement, and a camo pattern that blends seamlessly into spring woods. Combining Hawke's optical performance with an illuminated turkey-specific reticle and iconic Mossy Oak Bottomland finish, this optic is designed to deliver when the moment of truth arrives.

The Vantage IR 1–4x20mm offers the versatility turkey hunters demand. On 1x, it provides rapid, reflex-style shooting when birds move in close. When distance increases, the scope zooms smoothly to 4x for confident shot placement at the edge of effective range. Four inches of eye relief and adaptable mounting options make it compatible with a wide variety of turkey shotguns and shooting styles. Capped, low-profile ½-MOA turrets and a precision glass-etched reticle with multi-stage red and green illumination provide control in the field.

At the heart of the scope is Hawke's Turkey Dot IR reticle, designed specifically for fast, intuitive targeting on moving birds. A 2-MOA illuminated center dot delivers precise point-of-aim, while the surrounding illuminated horseshoe measures 10 inches at 50 yards on 4x, framing the vital area for quick alignment. Floating posts at 3, 6 and 9 o'clock further assist with rapid target acquisition, allowing hunters to stay on the bird as it moves into position.

Finished in Mossy Oak Bottomland, the scope and rings blend naturally into a wide range of spring hunting environments. Built on a rugged 1-inch mono-tube chassis, the Vantage IR features a high-torque zoom ring and fast-focus eyepiece for quick adjustments in the field. Included accessories consist of an aluminum zoom throw lever, flip-up lens covers and a honeycomb sunshade. The scope is nitrogen purged, shockproof, waterproof and fogproof. Member's Hunt: Patience is Tough When You Shoot a Big Buck

My phone still in my hands, I texted my teenage son, who was hunting along the field not far away. Trying not to move any part of my body but my thumbs, I sent the message, “Got a buck down, but he’s still alive. Help!” Tucker texted back, “What do you want me to do?” I replied: “Come kill the bastard before he kills me!” Intrigued? Read on.

Behind the Bullet: The .308 Norma Magnum

Norma’s ballistician Nils Kvale saw the wisdom of having the velocity and horsepower of the .300 H&H Magnum, but in a shorter, more affordable receiver, and used the H&H case to develop his .358 Norma Magnum in 1959 as well as the .308 Norma Magnum one year later. The .308 Norma Magnum closely resembles the wildcat .30-338 cartridge, though the shoulder of the former is located a bit more toward the base than that of the .308 Norma Magnum. Intrigued?
