There’s nothing better than hitting the field or range with a lever action rifle. Well, that’s not entirely true, it helps if that lever gun sports all the modern features that today’s shooters are looking for. Say hello to the Rossi R95 Triple Black. It’s a classic lever-gun built with modern upgrades that make shooting this bad boy a downright pleasure.

Our 45-70 test model wears a stubby 16.5-inch barrel length and sports an overall length of only 35.5 inches, making it a handy rifle for the truck, ranch, field, and even ground blinds that won’t get in the way. It sports a wood stock with a black webbing paint job and an alloy-steel receiver and steel barrel that are treated with a black oxide, providing a look that says, “I mean business.”

For sights, Rossi not only provides a peep rear sight and a drift adjustable front sight, but a full length Picatinny rail for mounting optics. We think a red-dot or a low power variable optic would be perfect on this bad boy.

The R95 Tripple Black sports a wide-loop lever that is smooth as they come and wrapped in black paracord to protect your fingers while you rock round after round through its chamber. In a pinch, that paracord could also be used to hang your most recent kill, or to hold up your pants if needed.

The best part of the Rossi R95 Triple Black, if we are being honest, is that it sports a barrel that has been threaded 5/8x24 to accept a muzzle device or, better yet, a suppressor. If you’ve never shot a suppressed lever-action rifle, let us be the ones to tell you that it not only reduces the audible report, but tames muzzle climb and recoil, too—a handy thing to have when its chambered in the hard thumping .45-70 cartridge.

Speaking of cartridges, the R95 Triple Black is available in all your classic lever-action favorites, including the .45-70 Govt. and .30-30 Win., and in pistol calibers like the .357 Mag. and .44 Mag.

Michigan Mayor Looks Down on Guns and Dogs

“If you’ve got a gun, you should be ashamed of yourself,” said Grand Rapids Mayor David LaGrand. NRA-ILA also noted that in his response to a police K-9 chasing down a suspect, LaGrand said: “It is time that we ask, ‘What are dogs good for?’ Like, if you need a dog to find someone in the woods, get a hound dog. If you need to chase somebody in a backyard, why couldn’t you do that with a drone? If my dog did what I saw in that video, I’d put my dog down.”
