In keeping with the trend towards lighter, high-mobility shotguns for pursuing spring gobblers, Benelli USA has expanded the company’s Nova pump shotgun lineup with the release of the Nova Turkey.

The Nova Turkey pump-action shotgun now comes in a 20-gauge platform ideally suited for the aggressive run-and-gun turkey hunter, and equally suited for those hunters who desire a lighter, lower-recoil alternative to the traditional 12-gauge turkey gun. Weighing in at just 6.5 pounds, it comes chambered for 2-¾ and 3-inch 20-gauge shotshells and features a 24-inch barrel with included improved cylinder, modified, and full chokes.

As part of the Nova family, the Nova Turkey 24-inch barrel 20-gauge features a unitized receiver and stock design, which is all decked out in Mossy Oak Bottomands. A skeletonized steel frame and overmolded polymer contribute to the gun's rigidity and operational simplicity. An aggressively ribbed and ergonomically contoured forend provide grip, ensuring easy pump-action even when wearing gloves. The full-length ribbed barrel terminates with a high-visibility red-bar front sight for quick sight-picture acquisition in the early morning light.

Another feature of the Nova-series pump shotgun is its integrated magazine cutoff button, allowing the shooter to eject a shotshell or open the action while keeping the next round secure in the magazine tube. This feature is designed to provide safety and convenience for the run-and-gun turkey hunter who wishes to move from set to set with an empty chamber.

Member's Hunt: Patience is Tough When You Shoot a Big Buck

My phone still in my hands, I texted my teenage son, who was hunting along the field not far away. Trying not to move any part of my body but my thumbs, I sent the message, “Got a buck down, but he’s still alive. Help!” Tucker texted back, “What do you want me to do?” I replied: “Come kill the bastard before he kills me!” Intrigued? Read on.

Behind the Bullet: The .308 Norma Magnum

Norma’s ballistician Nils Kvale saw the wisdom of having the velocity and horsepower of the .300 H&H Magnum, but in a shorter, more affordable receiver, and used the H&H case to develop his .358 Norma Magnum in 1959 as well as the .308 Norma Magnum one year later. The .308 Norma Magnum closely resembles the wildcat .30-338 cartridge, though the shoulder of the former is located a bit more toward the base than that of the .308 Norma Magnum. Intrigued?
