The Turkey Vest, from Badlands, is a lightweight piece of Turkey-hunting kit, DWR-finished for water resistance. Front YKK zipper pockets are specifically designed for a pair of slate calls, while a striker pocket behind them keeps sticks quiet and safe until ready for use. A dedicated box-call pouch sits at an easy-to-reach angle, while a hooked flap securely protects the call when on the move through thick terrain. Meanwhile, a sleeve inside the pouch holds chalk, resin, scuff pads and any other accessories your call might need. Next up, as there are still more pocketsa pair of magnetically closed chest pockets stow mouth calls, while a dual-compartment pocket provides a quiet and secure stowage point for any odds and ends like keys or a cell phone. Finally, the vest boasts a lapel pocket that will hold an inflatable decoy, and an inside pocket for valuables.

To keep the vest securely attached to its wearer are two adjustable buckles, which also allow for a wide range of fits. These work in conjunction with quick-adjust shoulder straps, featuring Balands' Bino Connnect system, allowing one to attach a Badlands bino case directly to the straps.

On the vest's rear, a durable, flip-down seat pad keeps long sits in the woods comfortable. The game shelf can hold decoys on the way to your hunting spot, and is expandable to add a downed bird on the way back out of the woods. To stay hydrated on the way, a hydration pocket holds a Badlands water bladder.

Behind the Bullet: The .308 Norma Magnum

Norma’s ballistician Nils Kvale saw the wisdom of having the velocity and horsepower of the .300 H&H Magnum, but in a shorter, more affordable receiver, and used the H&H case to develop his .358 Norma Magnum in 1959 as well as the .308 Norma Magnum one year later. The .308 Norma Magnum closely resembles the wildcat .30-338 cartridge, though the shoulder of the former is located a bit more toward the base than that of the .308 Norma Magnum. Intrigued?
