Just days before the annual NASGW showcase, Hornady has rolled out its new-for-2016 product announcements. Chief among them, as far as hunters are concerned, is the upcoming Precision Hunter line.

Designed around the equally-new ELD-X bullet (which stands for Extremely Low Drag - Expanding) with patent-pending Heat Shield tip, Precision Hunter is being marketed as the ideal load for any hunting situation, and is designed to offer effective terminal performance at all practical ranges.

The long and short of it is that Hornady feels its cracked to code to maintaining effective terminal performance at any range. In low velocity, 400+ yard impacts, the Heat Shield tip is designed to drive backward into the bullet to initiate expansion. Exhibiting expansion with a large and 85-90 percent retained weight is meant to make for deep penetration and large cavities.

The Precision Hunter line will initially feature the following offerings:

•  6.5 CREEDMOOR 143 GR ELD-X
•  7MM REM MAG 162 GR ELD-X
•  308 WIN 178 GR ELD-X
•  30-06 SPRG 178 GR ELD-X
•  300 RCM 178 GR ELD-X
•  300 WIN MAG 200 GR ELD-X
•  300 RUM 220 GR ELD-X
•  30-378 WBY 220 GR ELD-X
