undefinedThe NRA Annual Meetings & Exhibits in Indianapolis got off to a great start this morning as NRA Publications recognized its NRA Golden Bullseye award winners for 2014. In addition to American Hunter, American Rifleman and Shooting Illustrated commending top companies' new products in the design, innovation and consumer-value arena, it named Brownells' Frank Brownell III the 2014 NRA Golden Bullseye Pioneer of the Year.

Chairman of the Board at Brownells, Frank worked alongside his father, Bob, in the family business that Bob started in 1939. Today Frank's own son, Pete—2nd Vice President of NRA—helps to carry on the family legacy in their hometown of Montezuma, Iowa. Thanks to three generations of hard work, Brownells has evolved into "The World's Largest Supplier of Firearms Accessories and Gunsmithing Tools." Frank is also a big supporter of the firearm industry, the National Rifle Association and The NRA Foundation.

In his acceptance speech, Frank humbly stated, "I put my money where my heart is and I don't know any other way." I'd say we hunters, shooters, archers and NRA members certainly have much to be thankful for—starting with acknowledging that this company has exhibited at the NRA show for 67 years and was one of the first to do so! Thanks, Frank!

Tips & Tricks Learned from an Ongoing Study of Elk

The only thing I can confidently say about elk hunting is that education is ongoing. After decades of autumns spent in elk country, I have learned a few hard and fast guidelines to heighten my odds of success, even without standing over an elk at the end of the hunt. Elk hunting is changing from season to season. Every lesson you learn from a previous season of hunting has merit in overcoming the low odds already stacked against you.
