On this week's #SundayGunday, we’re taking a look at the 92 Ranch Hand from Heritage Manufacturing. A nifty mare’s leg style sidearm, the 92 Ranch Hand makes a great truck gun, and is just plain fun to shoot. With a 12-inch barrel and a six-round capacity, the 92 Ranch Hand comes chambered in the buyer’s choice of.357 Magnum, .45 Colt or .44 Magnum, perfect for taking on hogs. A side loading port makes the gun easy to top off on the fly, while a distinctive large-loop lever makes the gun very quick to charge and get back on target.

A saddle ring on the left-hand side of the Alloy Steel frame makes it easy to attach the gun to a single point sling, or other carrying solution. Up top, a drift-adjustable front sight and elevation adjustable buckhorn rear keeps the gun accurately on target. Six-groove rifling throughout the barrel also goes a ways toward this end. The gun is available with either a Black Oxide finish on its steel components and a round barrel, paired with a traditional wood stock and fore-end, or with polished stainless steel and an octagonal barrel, with a blackened wood stock and fore-end. Lastly, a rotary thumb safety tops the receiver just in front of the hammer.

Behind the Bullet: The .308 Norma Magnum

Norma’s ballistician Nils Kvale saw the wisdom of having the velocity and horsepower of the .300 H&H Magnum, but in a shorter, more affordable receiver, and used the H&H case to develop his .358 Norma Magnum in 1959 as well as the .308 Norma Magnum one year later. The .308 Norma Magnum closely resembles the wildcat .30-338 cartridge, though the shoulder of the former is located a bit more toward the base than that of the .308 Norma Magnum. Intrigued?
