Amid an increasingly hostile political environment in Connecticut, Ruger has relocated its corporate headquarters from Southport, Conn., to Mayodan, N.C. While this move happened in January of this year, manufacturing at Ruger’s Southport site was discontinued in the early 1990s. This simply reflects the latest change in a long trend, and while the company does maintain some operations in Connecticut, this move pushes more personal to Ruger's largest production facility.
Despite this being a significant shift on paper, Ruger has attempted to blunt the effect of it on personnel. None of the roughly 20 employees based in Connecticut lost their jobs or were forced to relocate. Some of the company’s key personnel, including chief executive officer, chief financial officer and general counsel did not have their offices at the Southport location.
