Nitrobolt

Traditions introduces the NitroBolt, the first bolt-action muzzleloading rifle designed specifically to use the patented Federal FireStick ignition system, so hunters need only load their bullet of choice. The .50-caliber rifle comes with a base to mount your riflescope of choice, and its barrel is threaded for use with a muzzle brake or suppressor.

Traditions has reimagined muzzleloader hunting with the NitroBolt, bolt-action muzzleloading rifle designed around the Federal FireStick system. With the Firestick, no longer will hunters accidentally overcharge their muzzleloading rifle with too much powder. The Firestick system is a factory-manufactured, precision-filled encapsulated charge that provides hunters the exact load they expect, every time. Hunters simply insert one preloaded FireStick in the breech, add a No. 209 primer then seat their bullet of choice through the muzzle. The FireStick provides safe removal of an unfired charge from the breech at the end of a day of hunting. It’s also sealed from outside moisture so shots remain reliable in any weather.

The NitroBolt’s 24-inch chrome-moly steel barrel is free-floated on pillar bedding built within the stock. It is fluted and tapered, and is cut with a 1:24-inch VAPR twist. It is threaded for use with a muzzle brake. The bolt features three locking lugs, and a 60-degree lift for ease of use with a riflescope. Its three-position safety keeps the gun completely safe during use. A cocking indicator signals when the gun is loaded with a patented FireStick. The bolt can be disassembled in seconds for ease of maintenance and cleaning. Best of all, the bolt features a patented extractor for the Firestick. The black composite stock is built with pillar bedding to free-float the barrel. Its length of pull and cheekpiece are adjustable so hunters can achieve some degree of customization.

Look for the NitroBolt this summer at an MSRP of $995. Watch a video about the Traditions NitroBolt on YouTube here.

Member's Hunt: Patience is Tough When You Shoot a Big Buck

My phone still in my hands, I texted my teenage son, who was hunting along the field not far away. Trying not to move any part of my body but my thumbs, I sent the message, “Got a buck down, but he’s still alive. Help!” Tucker texted back, “What do you want me to do?” I replied: “Come kill the bastard before he kills me!” Intrigued? Read on.

Behind the Bullet: The .308 Norma Magnum

Norma’s ballistician Nils Kvale saw the wisdom of having the velocity and horsepower of the .300 H&H Magnum, but in a shorter, more affordable receiver, and used the H&H case to develop his .358 Norma Magnum in 1959 as well as the .308 Norma Magnum one year later. The .308 Norma Magnum closely resembles the wildcat .30-338 cartridge, though the shoulder of the former is located a bit more toward the base than that of the .308 Norma Magnum. Intrigued?
