Garmin International has announced the Alpha 10, a versatile canine tracking and training device that is their smallest and lightest to date. The Alpha 10 provides easy-to-use, versatile operation as a stand-alone unit, paired with a compatible smartphone or tablet for enhanced dog tracking, or paired with a compatible Garmin device as a buddy-tracking system.

“When outdoors with your dogs, your activity will change, but one thing remains constant—the need to quickly determine their location and help keep them safe. The Alpha 10 provides outdoor enthusiasts with a unique dog tracking and training solution for various situations,” said Dan Bartel, Garmin vice president of global consumer sales. “Dogs are our best friends, but the Alpha 10 will be your closest companion in the outdoors whether you are hiking, hunting or just outside exploring with your dog. Additionally, its compact design allows users to go light, go far, and engage with Alpha 10 only when wanted or needed.”

Weighing in at 5.6 ounces and standing 2.6-inches tall, the Alpha 10 nonetheless packs a heavyweight punch with its robust features. Capable of at-a-glance dog tracking and easily configurable training, the Alpha 10 has a high-contrast display that provides a directional arrow and distance to dogs using a 2.5-second update rate, and is visible even in low-light conditions. The unit can track and train up to 20 dogs as far as 9 miles away, using built-in GPS and customizable training functions, which include tone and vibration, as well as 18 levels of momentary and continuous stimulation. Further, the Alpha 10 can quickly switch between dogs using the unit’s on-device toggle key. Built with battery life of up to a week (40 hours of use) and a water-rating of IPX72, the Alpha 10 can withstand cold and wet weather conditions.

Smartphone Compatible
Hunters can pair the Alpha 10 with the Garmin Explore™ smart device app for enhanced mapping solutions. When paired, users can stow the Alpha 10 handheld in their pack and use their compatible smartphone or tablet to view their dogs’ location and track in real time. Garmin Explore provides added relevant information such as hunt replay to relive moments from the hunt, robust off-grid navigation, customizable tracking lines and saved hunt collections.

Other Compatibilities
Alpha 10 users can pair their unit to a companion’s compatible Garmin dog tracking device, such as Alpha 200i, to view their companion and companion’s dog location. Once paired, the Alpha 10 operator can make real-time decisions based on at-a-glance information, instead of waiting for verbal communication from the dog’s handler. The two-way connectivity allows the dog handler and Alpha 10 user to view each other’s location for enhanced awareness when not in visual contact. Additionally, compatible devices can share predefined messages between units for rapid communication.

Individuals can pair the Alpha 10 with optional Garmin devices, including a compatible Garmin smartwatch, such as Instinct, fenix or tactix, using the built-in dog tracking app. For in-vehicle tracking, the Alpha 10 is also compatible with Garmin DriveTrack system. Also, UTV/ATV enthusiasts can pair the Alpha 10 to the Montana 700 or Tread series for additional dog tracking capabilities.
