On this week's #SundayGunday, we’re checking out the Burris Fullfield 3-12x42mm. While the Fullfield line encompasses a whole range of magnifications and objective lens sizes, this one appeals as an excellent balance of features for hunters facing almost any scenario in the field. Crafted from a single piece of aluminum, this Fullfield is built around a one-inch tube, perfect for hunters looking to shave a few ounces off their glass. Despite this, the scope still boasts a sizeable adjustment range of 72 MOA for both elevation and windage. These adjustments are made via 1/4-MOA clicks on both knobs, which utilize metal-on-metal components. While both these knobs are capped, they take advantage of the Burris Knob Synergy System, which allows folks to upgrade these knobs to ballistic turrets, custom knobs, and a host of other options. The zoom collar provides a smooth 4X-magnification adjustment, while the eyepiece focus ring allows hunters to dial in a crystal-clear picture.

Fullfield Lineup

That picture is also provided in no small part by Burris’ multi-coated lenses, which help reduce glare and shed moisture. There are three reticles available for the 3-12x42mm Fullfield, the Ballistic E3, the Plex and the Wind Ret Illuminated. While all are Rear Focal Plane reticles, the former two are significantly different from the latter one. The Ballistic E3 is calibrated for the average hunting caliber. When zeroed at 100 yards, the three lines below it are roughly equivalent to a 200, 300 or 400 yard shot, while three dots on the windage axis account for a 10 mph crosswind. The Plex, meanwhile, is simply a crisp, clear duplex style reticle, with maximum visibility and no graduations. Both these come on scopes with Standard Capped knobs and no parallax adjustment. The Wind Ret Illuminated, meanwhile, is set up to dial to a specific elevation, while holding for windage using any of the nine single MOA hash marks in either directions. Because of this, scopes equipped with the Wind Ret Illuminated come equipped with Advanced Exposed knobs, not to mention a side Parallax adjustment. A small crosshair can be illuminated in the center, running off a CR2032 battery.

Fullfield Knobs

The two models without ballistic turrets tip the scales at 14.7 ounces, while the Wind Ret Illuminated bumps that up slightly to 15.3 ounces.
