SIG Sauer has announced that it's adding .223 Rem. to its SIG HT line of premium-grade rifle ammunition. The new offering, which is designed with hunters in mind, features an all-copper bullet that's meant to deliver deep penetration and consistent 1.8x diameter expansion.

The 60-grain .223 Rem. bullet has a muzzle velocity of 3100 fps and a muzzle energy of 1280 ft-lbs., which places it firmly in the varmint and predator hunting class.

"The accuracy and effectiveness of the SIG HT line of ammunition is quickly making it a favorite among hunters, especially those who shoot high-performance AR rifles," said Dan Powers, President of the SIG SAUER Ammunition Division. "The nose geometry of the SIG HT bullet is designed for superior feeding in these AR-style platforms, and we now offer SIG HT hunting loads in three calibers."

SIG HT cartridges are made with premium nickel-plated shell cases, and flash-reduced propellant is used to minimize visible signature while shooting in low-light situations. Premium quality primers are also used to minimize variations in velocity.
