Shooting from prone is more fun when you're lying on a comfortable mat. (You do practice from prone, right?) Unfortunately, the one thing I forget most often when heading to the range is a shooting mat. I've brought enough sand and gravel home in my pockets to start a small Zen garden. That was before I found the Extend-O-Mat from Zoo Global Enterprises. Now this mat rides in the back of my vehicle almost permanently for several reasons.

The Extend-O-Mat 7200 is a body-cushioning 72x29.5 inches, but it folds to just 8 inches long. Other sizes are also available. A heavy-duty, vinyl-laminated, polyester scrim jacket surrounds closed-cell memory foam, making the mat durable, waterproof and mildew resistant.

I use the Extend-O-Mat for shooting, but I also keep it in my vehicle in case I need to change a tire, take a nap after chasing gobblers all morning or give my boy something padded to sit on when we're fishing. It also works as a makeshift liner on which to place game so the carpet in the back of my SUV doesn't get bloody. Cleanup is as simple as spraying the mat with a hose.
