LEDE 7Mm Offerings

The 7mm Backcountry made a considerable splash when released, with those folks who regularly use a suppressed rifle quickly understanding the concept, and those who didn’t remaining seemingly quizzical. Bottom line is that the users of traditional cartridges which use a barrel between 22 and 26 inches to deliver the velocities we are accustomed to, find that when a suppressor is added to the end of that barrel, the gun becomes unwieldy. Federal saw the wisdom of developing a cartridge which would give traditional velocities from a significantly shorter rifle, which could be equipped with a suppressor, yet wasn’t the length of a fishing rod.

The 7mm BackCountry came to light last year this time, utilizing a Peak Alloy steel case to raise the pressure limits from the traditional 65,000 psi all the way up to 80,000 psi. For 2026, Remington has joined the party with three new offerings for the 7BC, all loaded in the same Peak Alloy cases which sister company Federal uses.

All three loads use a 175-grain bullet, driven to just over 3,100 fps in a 24-inch barrel, and just under 3,000 fps in a 20-inch barrel with a suppressor. The classic Core-Lokt pointed soft-point bullet has been putting meat on the table since 1939, and for the old-meets-new experience, the shooter of the 7BC can now rely on that 175-grain Core-Lokt. The modern upgrade of that classic bullet—the Remington Core-Lokt Tipped—is also now loaded in the 7mm BackCountry. With a sharp polymer tip which helps maintain a uniform B.C. value and also acts as a wedge to initiate expansion upon impact, the Core-Lokt Tipped makes perfect sense for a hunter who wants the performance of the Core-Lokt, in a package better suited to longer shots. The last ammunition offering features the vastly overlooked and underrated Speer Impact bullet, a polymer-tipped, bonded core beauty which will hold together under high impact velocities, yet will reliably expand as the bullet slows down, as it will in longer shot scenarios.

All three loads are packaged in 20-round boxes. For more information, visit remington.com.
