Franchi USA has updated its Momentum Elite for 2024, with two new hard charging caliber options: the 450 Bushmaster and classic .30-'06 Springfield. These heavy hitters make for excellent additions to the Momentum Elite family, as the gun specialized in taming the recoil from such rounds, thanks to its TSA Recoil pad which soaks up 50-percent of felt recoil. A fluted and chromed three-lug bolt keeps lockup tight for beefy chamberings, while a 60-degree throw allows for rapid unlocking.

The barrel is free floating with a light contour, and is crafted from cold-hammer-forged chrome molybdenum. Its muzzle is threaded to 5/8x24 TPI, and comes with a muzzle brake attached. A Relia trigger sends shots downrange, and is adjustable from two to four pounds. The gun is fed by a removable box magazine, holding either three or four rounds depending on chambering. Above the action, a one-piece Picatinny rail allows for quick and easy optic mounting.

In addition to its recoil-reducing TSA buttpad, the stock features an adjustable length of pull (LOP) and impressive ergonomics. It comes available finished in either Realtree Excape, Optifade Elevated II or True Timber Strata. Sling mounting points are recessed in fore and aft, for an easy, snag-free sling mounting solution.

Behind the Bullet: The .308 Norma Magnum

Norma’s ballistician Nils Kvale saw the wisdom of having the velocity and horsepower of the .300 H&H Magnum, but in a shorter, more affordable receiver, and used the H&H case to develop his .358 Norma Magnum in 1959 as well as the .308 Norma Magnum one year later. The .308 Norma Magnum closely resembles the wildcat .30-338 cartridge, though the shoulder of the former is located a bit more toward the base than that of the .308 Norma Magnum. Intrigued?
